Mt. Rainier

Wednesday, July 24

Let's see if I can remember some of the details now that it has been so long!

On Wednesday morning we packed up some sack lunches and headed out to Mt. Rainier to do a short hike and picnic lunch.  We picked a hike that was a relatively short distance since we have a lot of little legs in the group.  We also wanted a hike that had something to see at the end so we picked the Silver Falls hike.  It was a tiny bit of a climb up to the falls and then we hiked back down on the other side of the river.  It was beautiful weather and beautiful scenery.  Unfortunately we got to the waterfalls at the wrong time of day and it was really, really bright and sunny and hard to get a really good picture of it.  I think the kids enjoyed it for the most part and even the little ones hiked a good chunk of the way themselves.  At one point I think everyone was looking for walking sticks to use and there was some whining off and on from almost all of the kids at one point or another!  They were definitely all hungry when we got back to the cars.  We found a picnic area not far from the start of our trail so the kids were all happy for that.  On the way back to the cabin we decided to drive in to the Mt. Rainier park a little farther to see if we could actually see Mt. Rainier before we left.  So we drove a little bit into the park and finally came across a decent shot of the peak.  Here are a lot of pictures:
