Easter 2014

MJ being goofy!
The girls in their Easter dresses.
This year I found the cute idea of making a dress from a T-shirt and then adding fabric on for the skirt.  The girls were excited about this and we picked out fabric for the skirts at the fabric store and then went to a couple of stores to try and find some cute T-shirts to match.  We also picked out a coordinating fabric to make a belt/sash for the dresses.  (Kitty chose not to wear her sash on Easter.)  The dresses all turned out really cute and the older girls especially love them and wear them all the time to church.  M&M's skirt we actually made shortly after Christmas but she wore it on Easter since it was still relatively new.  (I love the fabric for her skirt!)
Digging in to the Easter candy!
Kay in her dress.
Close up of Kay's sash.  I made these cute flowers for Kay and MJ's dresses.  I just cut a long strip of fabric and twisted it around and hot glued it as I was shaping it.  (And I burned myself several times...)  I think they turned out pretty cute.

We had Easter dinner at my parents' house again and also had our Easter egg hunt over there.  Again I don't have any pictures so I will have to look thru DH's camera.

Kitty turns 9!

Thursday, April 17, 2014

Kitty's birthday was kind of a crazy day.  The kids were still off track but that evening our ward was having a Pinewood Derby event for the Activity Day girls.  We were still a little bit up in the air about who was going to be attending that.  We had been working on the cars with the girls for a little bit but were still finishing up the detail work.  In the end we decided to all attend the Pinewood Derby and I think we had Kitty open a few presents that night but we did the rest of the presents and cake and ice cream the following night.  (I don't have any pictures of the Pinewood Derby or the cake part of Kitty's birthday on my camera so hopefully they are on DH's camera and I will post them later.)

Tracy Aviary

Tuesday, April 15, 2014

I took the girls on a trip to the Tracy Aviary while they were off track.  (We tried meeting up with my sister and her boys there but her doctor's appointment went much longer than she was expecting so it ended up being just us.)  Afterwards we ate a picnic lunch at Liberty Park.

I thought this was a cute picture of the girls climbing across these rocks.
Some close ups of a golden eagle in memory of Dad N.  This bird was just sitting there posing for me.
The girls love posing for pictures if you can't tell...
This peacock kept following us around and then was climbing up on all of the buildings.
Look who caught some fish!
MJ enjoying the nice weather!  I think she made some funny comment about it being a perfect day for a picnic.  I will have to see if I wrote it down somewhere exactly what she said.

New, updated playground

Wednesday, April 9, 2014

They recently updated the playground at our neighborhood park and I took the kids there while they were off track to try it out.  Overall I think they liked it but they missed a few things from the old playground too.

Kitty is the one hanging by one arm.
This is a new type of electronic game where you run around and hit the lights when they light up.  The kids seemed to enjoy it.

Kay turns 6!

A Rapunzel lego set!
MJ patiently waiting with Grandma S as Kay opens her gifts.
Kay's "Frozen" cake.
This is the picture that I used for the design of the cake.  You tape it to glass, then decorate the design with the frosting on the outside of the glass, then freeze it and then apply it to the top of the cake.  It worked pretty well but next time I think I need to make the picture bigger or have a little less fine detail work.  I also need to freeze it for a little bit longer next time.  It turned out pretty cute though.

Zoo field trip

Tuesday, March 18, 2014

MJ and I met Kay's kindergarten class at the zoo today for their field trip.  Usually the field trip is later in the year - like in April or May.  We had been having nice weather up to this point in the season, but this day happened to be a very chilly day.  We didn't end up spending a lot of time there because the girls were just too cold and not enjoying themselves.  I think we left just before lunchtime and the girls ate their sack lunches in the car on the way home.

Kay is in the small window just to the left of the emergency door.  She is in the dark pink coat and white hat, waving her hand.
The elephants were pretty entertaining to watch.
Kay really wanted her picture taken with the peacock.
