Christmas Day 2012

Tuesday, December 25

We had some super late sleepers this morning!  The older kids all wanted to sleep together last night so they played games in M&M's room for a little bit and then Luke went to bed in his room and the girls minus MJ went camped out in M&M's room.  MJ was feeling left out so we tried putting her down there as well but it didn't work out too well and I ended up having to get her after an hour or two - she woke up and was quite sad.  So DH and I took turns laying with her in her bed until she fell back asleep.

Then this morning Luke and Blondie were up first and then Kitty and M&M woke up.  MJ was sound asleep for quite a while and Kay somehow slept through her sisters making noise downstairs.  After MJ woke up I went downstairs and woke Kay up so the kids could start opening presents.  At this point it was already after 9:00 and the older ones were going crazy!  Before MJ and Kay woke up I got the breakfast casserole and cinnamon & orange rolls in the oven for our breakfast.  MJ finally stumbled out of bed so I took her downstairs with me to wake Kay up.  We were talking to her quietly and nudging her, telling her it was Christmas.  As soon as she heard that her eyes popped open and she looked at me and asked me what day it was.  I told her that it was finally Christmas day and she was super excited!  (She had been asking me every day for the last several weeks if it was Christmas yet.  Kids her age had a hard time understanding what it means when you say "One more week until Christmas" or "4 more days until Christmas."

So we finally allowed the kids to go into the family room to open up their gifts.  My parents arrived as they were finishing up opening the Santa gifts and then we went upstairs for breakfast.  After breakfast the kids opened their gifts from family that were under the tree in the living room.  Then later on in the day we drove over to my parents' house for dinner and met up with my sister's family over there for some more gift exchanging.

Our family room Christmas morning before the kids were let loose!
I love Luke's expression in this picture...  He was purposely trying to make a goofy face.
Kay posing for a picture again!
Everyone intent on opening/looking at their stocking gifts.
This is how Kay felt about most of her presents.  She would usually open up a gift and when she saw what it was she would say, "It's just what I always wanted!" or something similar.
MJ was very meticulous at opening her gifts.  She would rip off  one tiny piece of paper at a time and the she would have to hand it to someone before she ripped off the next piece.

Blondie and Kitty opening up some gifts they were given to go with their dolls.
M&M decked out in some of her new Christmas wardrobe.
This was probably MJ's favorite Christmas gift.  It is a really cute play cookie set with the cookies and frosting that stick on with velcro and then a little cookie sheet that they velcro to as well.  Then there is a tube that you can fit all of the cookies into and there is a little oven mitt, knife and spatula.  She spent most of the day taking the cookies on and off of the cookie sheet and then handing them out to everyone.  It was really cute to see her get so involved!

Another favorite gift of MJ's - a water coloring book of My Little Pony.

One of Luke's new Lego set creations - Shelob from Lord of the Rings.

MJ playing with her cookie set again!
