The 3rd graders at our school are each assigned a day to show and teach their class how to do something. We had a hard time coming up with something for Kitty to teach her class. We finally decided on fingerprint art. We checked out a few books from the library and I experimented with some materials to use to be able to do it relatively cheaply for the whole class. Instead of using ink pads which could be fairly expensive, I found the idea to use the car wash shammy cloths that you can buy at the dollar store. You cut them into smaller squares, get them a little damp and then put some washable children's paint onto the squares. I was able to put 3 different colors onto a styrofoam plate and then disperse the plates around on the students' desks so that they could each reach one. Kitty showed them how to do a few different things and then we passed out white cardstock and just let the kids have fun designing. They all had a blast and it ended up being a really fun project to teach. Here are a couple of pictures of the shammies with the paint on them and then a few of the designs that my kids did at home:
