Sounds of the Season 2015

Saturday, December 5, 2015

M&M was able to participate in the Sounds of the Season concert again this year with me. It is fun being able to share this experience with her as well as with my parents!

Hanging Christmas Lights

Saturday, November 14, 2015

We had a few weeks of some nice unseasonably warm weather just after Halloween so DH took advantage of it and hung our Christmas lights up early. He is getting much more comfortable climbing up on the roof - and it is definitely easier at this house than at our old one! A couple of the kids wanted to give it a try as well. Luke was a little terrified, but Kitty and M&M didn't mind it.

Christmas Decorations

Here are some of the Christmas decorations I had around the house this past year:

These are the gifts I made for my primary class.
The kids and I made these snowflakes for our window out of coffee filters from the dollar store. They turned out really cute and the girls loved hanging them in the window!

Christmas Eve 2014

Wednesday, December 24, 2014

Since we didn't have my family over for our Christmas Eve celebration, we ended up decorating our Christmas cookies and reading the nativity story from the scriptures. Then the kids opened up their Christmas pajamas.

M&M is trying to be a good sport and participate but she really wasn't feeling well!

Christmas dresses

Sunday, December 21, 2015

Although Kitty didn't go to church with us, she still wanted to get dressed up in her Christmas dress! (Although we couldn't convince M&M to get in the picture!)

I got that cute tree in the background on clearance at Tai Pan Trading since it was nearing the end of the Christmas season. I loved it in that space in the living room!

Christmas Eve Sky

Some beautiful skies on Christmas Eve!

Christmastime Sickness!

The Sunday before Christmas (Dec 21), Kitty woke up and immediately started throwing up! We ended up leaving her at home by herself for Sacrament Meeting because we were having our Christmas choir program and DH and I were both singing in the choir. She ended up feeling better as the day went on and ended up going to school the next day. Everyone seemed to be alright on Monday and then on Tuesday (Dec 23) MJ woke up throwing up and shortly after that I followed along with DH. Blondie also felt sick by I don't think she ended up throwing up - she did stay home from school though. It was a miserable day! It is the first time since I have known DH that he has actually thrown up!

On Christmas Eve morning M&M was throwing up and DH still wasn't feeling great. We had been planning on having a family Christmas party at our house on Christmas Eve but ended up having to cancel it because of our sickness. By Christmas morning everyone was almost back to normal -and I don't think that Luke and Kay ended up getting the sickness at all.

The only good thing about this sickness is that it was relatively short-lived and most of us were hit pretty hard but within 12 hours were feeling better.

Getting ready for Santa!

Monday, December 22, 2014

Kay made these signs and put them at the bottom of our stairs so that Santa could find his way to our Christmas tree! Need to work on her spelling a little! :)

Ward Christmas Party

Friday, December 12, 2014

Our ward this year did a Night in Bethlehem themed Christmas party. The idea was for each of the ward auxiliary groups to decorate a canopy & table in an old-time Bethlehem theme and each group had a different food or activity assignment. We were then supposed to dress up and come and experience a little what it may have been like during the time of Jesus' birth. Since DH is in the YM presidency, he helped with their table which was mostly vegetables & fruit. DH decided that he wanted to try and make something a little authentic so we found a recipe for baked falafel and made several batches of that and took it with us. It is definitely a unique taste!

Here is a picture of Kitty dressed up and holding the gift that was given by the ward.

Block Nativity Set

Monday, December 8

I made this nativity set last year for the kids to play with.  MJ and Kay have been having a lot of fun this year playing with it in front of our fireplace!

Sounds of the Season 2014

Saturday, December 6

I was able to perform with Sounds of the Season again this year.  And again there was a conflict with M&M's district honor band so she decided not to participate with Sounds of the Season this year - and I missed her concert once again. We had a 2:00 matinee performance and then a 7:30 evening performance which DH and the kids came to.

I uploaded this picture and thought, wait, is this picture from the wrong year because it looks like M&M is in the picture.  After looking at it a little closer I realized that it is not M&M, it is one of the violin players!
A picture with my mom in it.
A picture with my dad in it.
Kay and MJ had their picture taken with Santa.

Lights on the house

Saturday, December 6

DH had put most of the lights up the week before but then we wanted to add the icicle lights.  Here are a few pictures of DH, Luke and M&M on the roof - Luke was pretty scared up there (and I had tried going up the week before and was pretty scared myself).  The previous owners had left their Christmas lights because they were cut to length for the house. We didn't like the fact that they were only white and red bulbs though so we bought some green and blue ones to add to the strings. We're not quite sure if we put them up correctly but they didn't look too bad.

Christmas wreath

Thursday, December 4, 2015

I decided to try my hand at making a Christmas wreath for the front door this year. I think it turned out pretty good.

Kay helped me!

Christmas downtown!

Wednesday, December 3

We had some unseasonably warm weather before Christmas so we decided to take advantage of it early in the Christmas season and take the family downtown to see the lights on Temple Square. DH had to go downtown for a meeting so we met up with him after the kids got home from school.

They have a new display at one of the visitor's centers that is a miniature version of the Salt Lake Temple inside and out.  It was pretty neat to look at!

Decorating for Christmas!

Sunday, November 30

Here are a few pictures of some of our Christmas decorating so far:

These are all pictures from the kitchen.
