M&M was sitting on the couch studying and MJ was sitting next to her copying down the things that M&M was writing! And Kay was sitting on the other side brushing M&M's hair! It was really cute!

MJ- Science Project

MJ had to do a science project for her school class. She tried different objects around the house to see if they would float. I first had her predict whether each item would float or not and then she would test it and record her results. This is the poster that she drew for her project:

I love the rubber duck that she drew! (She wanted me to help her with it but I told her that she needed to do it on her own. I think she did a really good job!)

National Honor Society

M&M was inducted into the National Honor Society at her school. I'm not sure why she didn't apply for it for her junior year but I kind of pushed her to do it for her senior year. She almost didn't but with some extra prodding I was able to talk her into it. She found out at the end of the school year that she had been accepted but they didn't have the induction ceremony until September.

3rd Car

We told M&M that if she got her YW Personal Progress completed we would look into getting a 3rd car so that she could drive to school instead of me driving her every day. Well, summer came and almost went and school was about to start and we finally found a car that we thought would work well. It is a 2001 Toyota Corolla with decent mileage and is not a great looker so we don't care if it gets beat up a little for our teenage drivers. It has manual windows, manual door locks, no rear defroster and the paint has a clear coat that is flaking off. It is awesome! We bought it the first week of school and had to get a few things fixed up to get it registered - needed a new front windshield and some new brakes. It has been really nice having a third car and not having to drive her everywhere or have her take the van. It has definitely freed up some more of my time!

MJ's class went on a field trip to the Natural History Museum of Utah up at the University of Utah campus. I was able to go as a chaperone. I was put in charge of MJ and two boys from her class. The kids had to answer some questions about a few of the exhibits and we also ate lunch there. It was a nice place - I had never been there before.

With the middle schools they have the 7th graders start a day before the 8th and 9th graders to give them a chance to figure out their lockers and where their classes are before the school gets super crowded. That is why Blondie started yesterday and Luke starts today. Luke is in the 9th grade this year which is still in the middle school but he is allowed to participate in things at the high school - such as the marching band and any school sports.

Blondie and M&M started school today. Blondie is in the 7th grade and is at the same school as Luke. M&M is a senior in high school!! AHHHH!!

MJ met her teacher on the same day that Kitty and Kay started school last week. MJ was really excited to be going to kindergarten this year and her teacher is really nice. Unfortunately on Monday, MJ got sick and was throwing up and sleeping all day. She was supposed to start school on Tuesday and we were hopeful that she would be better by Tuesday morning but unfortunately she threw up again that morning... I was also supposed to watch my neighbor's kids for her but I had to cancel with her and find someone else that could fill in for me.

When MJ woke up later in the day and realized that she had missed her first day of school she was in tears! I felt so bad for her! I emailed her teacher and explained that MJ was sick and she said that she hoped that she felt better and was looking forward to seeing her the next day.

So along came Wednesday morning and MJ woke up with a lot more energy and was feeling much better (although still not quite 100%). She was so excited to finally be able to go to school! She is in afternoon kindergarten and there is not a bus for the afternoon classes to get to school so I drove her after lunch and went and helped her find where she is supposed to line up. I was a little sad watching her go into the school! I can't believe my baby is in kindergarten! This is the one year where all 6 of our kids will be in the public school system together - from kindergarten up to a senior in high school!

MJ was so excited to show me all of the things that she got at school! It was really cute watching her sit down on the couch and pull everything out of her backpack and tell me what they all were.

Our family ended up taking two cars to the Bear Lake family reunion because we were going to split up after the reunion ended. Kitty and Kay were supposed to start school on Monday (July 27th) but because of the reunion we had them miss the first two days of school and they started on Wednesday instead. They were a little stressed out (at least Kitty was) about missing the first two days of school but we had talked with the teachers ahead of time and I knew they would be fine. I left the family reunion Tuesday evening with Kitty, Kay and MJ and headed home. Unfortunately I forgot to leave the access pass to Ideal Beach and there was no cell service between Bear Lake and Logan... When I finally got the message that I had left with the pass, I was almost an hour into my trip. So I had to turn around and drive through the canyon again and return the pass and then start the trip all over again! We didn't get home until way late! I felt bad for the kids!

We are on A-track this year which means that the kids start the last week of July but then get out the first part of June. Kitty is 5th grade this year and Kay is in 2nd!

Last Day of Elementary School

M&M and Luke got out of school around the first week of June, but the younger kids with the year-round schooling had to go until July 2nd this year! We were so ready to be done by the time July hit! Kay's class is the only one that really had an awards program for the parents to come to. The other classes just had a little ceremony for the students. DH was able to come to the school with me for Kay's program and then we got pictures of the girls with their teachers.

Kitty's Science Project

Kitty's teacher usually makes her students do a science project but this year she made it optional - I'm not sure if it is because she assigned it late or she just decided to do things differently this year. So Kitty was not required to do one but we decided to do it anyways. She chose to do a project on how food coloring added to water affects the color of flowers. I bought some white daisies at the store and we put one group of flowers in plain water and then added food coloring to the water of the other flower groups. We also had two flowers that we tried splitting the stem down the middle and placing each half in a different color.

I wish we had had more time because by the time Kitty needed to write it up the flowers were just barely turning colors and the two-color ones hadn't really changed much at all. It was kind of neat seeing them turn different colors though.
