Visit to Vancouver

July 29-August 2

DH, M&M, Luke and Blondie stayed one more night at Bear Lake and then the next day headed off to visit DH's mom in Vancouver. They were able to have some fun visiting her as well as DH's grandma who lives in Portland. The younger kids were bummed that they couldn't go to visit them as well but this was the only time that we could make anything work out this summer with our crazy school schedule. They drove up on Wednesday and came back home late Sunday night. They were also there for M&M's 17th birthday. They went out to dinner with her and saw the movie Ant Man which they all enjoyed.

Monday was also my dad's 75th birthday! We wanted to do a cake but weren't sure how we would get one ordered and picked up without a lot of travelling so I volunteered to make a cake! I ended up baking 4 rectangular cakes beforehand and then on Monday morning I mixed up some frosting and assembled it all together. I made 2 lemon cakes (because that is one of my dad's favorites) and then 2 chocolate cakes. I pieced it together and made one half of the cake lemon - stacked 2 high - and then the other half chocolate. I then frosted the whole thing as one so it looked like one huge cake! It was quite the undertaking! I think it turned out pretty well - it wasn't super fancy but there was plenty for everyone and it tasted pretty good too!

I can't believe that my baby is 5 and will be starting kindergarten soon! She is growing up way too quickly!

After church she opened up her presents and then my parents and sister's family came over for dinner and cake and ice cream. MJ enjoyed playing with her new toys and with her cousins.

Blondie turns 12!

Wait, what?!? We had cake for Blondie's birthday a day early because DH was going to be leaving on her birthday to go up to scout camp with the Deacons. And Blondie's birthday was a day before the YW camp for our stake! So her birthday was pretty low key this year but she was super excited to move up to Young Women's and to be able to go to camp! Blondie opened a few presents on the 14th and then most of them she opened on her birthday before DH left for camp.

DH and I went out to Texas Roadhouse for his birthday and then came home and opened presents and had some cake - although neither of us were terribly hungry after our dinner!

This is a present that I had wrapped to give to DH for Christmas, but then ended up keeping it to give to him on his birthday instead. Notice the Christmas wrapping paper. :)

Kay begged me to throw her a friend party this year and I agreed to do it. She invited all of the girls from her school class. We had 7 girls show up and Kay had a blast!

She chose a horse/unicorn theme and we played pin-the-tail on the unicorn, played a ring toss game with glow stick bracelets, launched helicopter toys off the deck, jumped on the trampoline and had a pinata. We served cupcakes that the girls decorated.

M&M drew this by copying a smaller version of it that Kay had drawn (I thought I took a picture of her drawing but I don't see it here. I think I have it saved so I will take a picture and add it here.)

I couldn't find any unicorn pinatas so this was the next best thing that I could find!

Kay was so excited for her birthday this year! We had a family celebration on Monday evening and my parents and sister's family came over. She asked me to make a butterfly cake and picked out the colors for it.
