Rube Goldberg

March 6, 2015

Luke had to do a Rube Goldberg project for one of his classes this year. He and his partner did it at our house. You'll want to expand the video to full screen.

M&M had to do a Rube Goldberg Project for her science class. Here is a link to her explanation and then the execution of it:

This first link is a bigger file that has the two combined. The last two clips are smaller files.

Baby K turns 1!!!

On Monday, April 6th, my baby turned 1!! I can't believe that a year has gone by already! They definitely grow up way too fast! Unfortunately a few days before her birthday Baby K came down with a really bad cold and was sneezing, coughing and had a runny nose. She was a little bit better on her birthday, but still not 100%. This is how she felt most of the day:
She did manage a few smiles though:
Baby K wasn't sure what to do with the presents so I ended up opening most of them. She did like her new sandals though (I finally found some that will fit her chubby feet) and her books that had things to feel on them.

Now the birthday cake was an interesting experience for her. Baby K is still struggling to eat more solid foods. I try and give her finger foods at most meals and she usually just plays with them and throws them on the floor. Whenever I try to put food into her mouth she closes her mouth and turns her head away. If I try and force it in, sometimes she will manage to eat it and other times she will just spit it out. Well, with the birthday cake she picked up the plate that I had given her a piece on and tried to throw it off the side of her tray. So we tried again and she stuck her fingers in the cake and then promptly tried to wipe it off her hands. At one point she threw the cake again and everyone started laughing and she burst out in tears and hid her face in the side of her high chair. I think it was a combination of being tired and not feeling well, but it was definitely a unique reaction that none of our other kids have had. I think in the end she managed to eat a little bit of the cake but on the whole she just played with it and wasn't sure what to think.

Whether she enjoyed the experience or not I'm not sure, but the rest of the family had plenty of laughs. Unfortunately, being baby #5 she has lots of spectators!

Day at the beach

Well, not quite, but this is about as close as you can get to one here in the Salt Lake area. On Saturday, DH & his parents took the kids to the Great Salt Lake. This is the first time that DH and the kids have been there (and it's been a long time since I have been there) so we weren't quite sure what to expect. All I remember about it is that the water is VERY salty (you can't sink) and there is a very strong, almost overpowering smell of salt. I stayed home with Baby K to get some things ready for the luncheon for her baby blessing on Sunday and I wasn't sure it would be much fun for either of us. They ended up being gone a lot longer than I expected because they had a BLAST there. The kids were just dressed in pants & T-shirts & wore flip-flops because we thought they might want to get out and walk along the sandy shore. Well, it turns out that they all ended up practically swimming in the water. When they pulled up to the house I was in the middle of cooking dinner but I had to quickly put that on hold so that I could get everyone in the shower or bath to clean the salt off of them. One of the bad parts about playing in the Great Salt Lake is that the water is so salty and once that dries on the skin it causes the skin to become really dry and itchy sometimes (not very comfortable at all). I had to throw everyones clothes in the wash because they were completely wet! DH says that we will have to go again sometime and take the kids in their swimsuits & bring towels. There are some outdoor showers there to rinse off in but DH didn't want to shower their clothes for some reason...

Here is some video that DH took. Sorry it's pretty choppy - I will try and see if I can get a better version up soon...

Kitty turns 3!

Thursday, April 17th
Kitty turned the big 3 this week. She is at a really cute, fun age and it was a lot of fun watching her open her presents. She wanted everything to be pink this year. When she was asked what she wanted for her birthday her answer was always something pink, i.e. a pink trampoline, a pink chair, a pink pony...

My brother & his wife, D & K, came down from Rexburg Wednesday to spend a couple of days with us so they were her for Kitty's birthday as well as my parents & sister M. We had a pizza dinner and then my brother & dad put together Kitty's new tricycle & then we had cake & ice cream. Kitty was so excited all day long for me to decorate her cake and then she wanted to eat it right after I was done. When I was decorating it I kept asking her what color she wanted different things like the pony, the flowers, the pony's hair and every time the answer was 'pink'. She had a hard time waiting all day before we finally ate it!

The video I've included here was when Kitty was opening up one of her gifts which was a My Little Pony play house. For some reason she had it in her head that this was something for Blondie because it is something she knew that Blondie would like as well. It was pretty hilarious watching her open the present. (And yes that is Baby K crying in the background - she had decided that she wanted to eat right when Kitty was in the middle of opening the gifts...)

M&M's tumbling performance

M&M did a good job on her performance. She has a lot of talent with tumbling - most of it just comes naturally to her. The first little section is their "warm-up" where each of the students did some tumbling across the stage. The second section is the routine that her class did.

Blondie's first ballet recital

Here is the video of Blondie's class (3-4 year olds) in the ballet recital. They did a full length version of the Grinch - set to ballet. Each of the different classes did a dance to one of the songs and the older girls did some of the in-between stuff as well. The room where this took place was completely crowded with standing room only - but when you were sitting in a seat you couldn't see most of what was going on on the stage because of how the room was laid out. Blondie did a really good job though and loved that we were all there to support her. She loves watching the video of herself.

Our little daredevil

This is some video that we took a couple of weeks ago. The kids had been playing outside and I was making dinner in the kitchen. The other kids came in and Kitty was left outside by herself when I looked out and saw her doing this. DH ran and grabbed the video camera and was able to get her last time doing it before her siblings came out again and took over. You may have to play it twice to make sure you get the very beginning of the video.
