Stake Primary Pioneer Trek

Our Stake had a primary activity where they had the kids walk from one of the buildings in our stake to another one and had little activities along the way. Some of our kids dressed up in some of the pioneer clothes that we have. It was a really hot day and unfortunately partway through MJ started to not feel well - and looked like she was going to pass out - so DH took her back to our car and drove her to the other building and we met them there. This activity was in part to have the kids experience a little what their older siblings are going to go through with the youth pioneer trek this year for youth conference.

Since we didn't have my family over for our Christmas Eve celebration, we ended up decorating our Christmas cookies and reading the nativity story from the scriptures. Then the kids opened up their Christmas pajamas.

M&M is trying to be a good sport and participate but she really wasn't feeling well!

Splash park

They built a new splash park in our city that opened towards the end of summer.  Since the kids were still off track when we got back from Washington, I took them over there one afternoon after lunch.  There is a nice family across the street from us with 5 kids and our girls really enjoy playing with their two older girls - one of them is a little bit younger than Kitty and the other is a little bit older than MJ.  Since the younger one is not in school yet, I invited her to come with us so the girls had a lot of fun playing with her as well.  The splash park was super fun for the kids - we will definitely go there again next summer!

Family History Dept Family Dinner

The Family History Department sponsored a dinner/activity night that we attended.  It took place at a park in Murray (?).  It was M&M's last day of marching band camp so she wasn't able to attend with us.  The food was pretty good and the kids really enjoyed the activities afterwards - bouncy houses and slides, face painting, balloon animals (which we had to wait in a really long line for), snow cones, some type of craft with bandanas - and I think the older kids and DH played some badminton as well.  Here are a few pictures I took during the evening:

I loved watching how MJ went down this slide!  I was impressed that she actually did it because she is not a big slide lover!

Our annual neighborhood parade followed by pancake breakfast at the church.  (We may have to go back to our old neighborhood each year so we can still participate and see old friends.)

Seven Peaks Waterpark

I was able to get season passes to the Seven Peaks Waterparks for pretty cheap this year so I got them for the whole family.  This is one of the times when I took the kids by myself to the Salt Lake one.  They had a blast!  It is getting easier to do this now that the kids are getting older.  With the season passes, you can go to the park before it is open to the general public so we went in the morning and came home around lunch time before it got too crowded.  I took Kay down one of the slides for her first time and then M&M was able to take Kay down as well.  I'm glad I brought life jackets for the younger kids to wear.

Trip to the zoo

The summer started our kind of hot but then settled down and was relatively mild the rest of the summer.  I took the kids to the zoo at the end of June and the weather was perfect!

These are 3 bear cubs that are growing up.  This is the first time I have ever really seen these bears active.  They were moving all around their enclosure.

Riding the carousel - The last time we were at the zoo, Kay was very upset that we didn't allow her to ride the carousel, so I let her do it this time.  The older kids weren't interested in riding this time.

This is the Hogle Zoo's newest exhibit - the African Savannah.  It is still partly under construction, but they have the lions out on display.  There are two male lions and two female lions and they rotate which ones are on display to the public until they can introduce them to each other and have them all together.  Today the males were out for us to see.

It was pretty cool seeing them up this close.

They just reopened the train ride after making some changes with the new zoo layout.
