Halloween fun

Mom N came into town around this time to spend about a week with us.  She was able to attend a get together with her cousins and then was able to go to one of M&M's marching band competitions as well as one of Luke's soccer games.  Mom N's brother and his wife invited all of us to visit them at their house and go to a couple of Halloween themed homes in their neighborhood.  The first one was all decked out in Harry Potter items and the second one had the outside decorated really cute with moving skeletons.  Afterwards we had some treats at their house and sang some Halloween songs.  It was a fun evening.

Aunt Grace

DH's great-aunt that lived in the original farmhouse in Perry, UT passed away in the end of August.  I didn't know her very well but I always remember seeing her at family gatherings and she and her husband were always there to represent the family.  DH and I went to the funeral in Perry.  It was neat to hear a little more about her and to listen to Elder Nelson speak as well.

The W family farmhouse.  DH's uncle said that the house was added onto at one point but then DH's great-uncle had the addition torn down because he didn't need the extra space.  I'm sure that this house could be put on Utah's historic registry if the family was interested.  I hope that the home and the orchard land are kept in the W family.

Promontory School

DH's grandfather's family is from Perry, UT.  They were some of the original settlers in that part of Utah (at the time it was called 3 Mile Creek instead of Perry).  The family owned quite a bit of property and DH's grandfather bought a portion of it from his father.  He later built a house on it and farmed the orchard land on it after he retired from the Air Force.  When DH's grandfather passed away several years ago the family sold the house and a portion of the land as well.  

So fast forward a few years and a charter school has now been built on that portion of land that was sold.  It is called Promontory School and we were invited to attend the grand opening/ribbon cutting ceremony for the school.  They put us up front with DH's two uncles and their wives and our family was recognized during the ceremony.  One of DH's uncles gave a really nice speech about his father and gave a brief synopsis of his life.  They presented the family with a plaque of the Colonel that will be displayed inside the school.  (I wish we had taken a picture of the plaque.)  After the ceremony we were able to tour the building and then they had a few refreshments afterwards - including some fresh peaches which were AWESOME and super juicy!!

They still have quite a bit of work to do before the school was to open a couple of weeks later.  It was very nice inside though.

Here is a picture of the new Brigham City temple from the school site.  After we were finished at the school we drove by the temple and DH took a couple of pictures of M&M and Luke in front of it.  The younger kids were pretty much done for the day - it was a very hot and sunny day.

The temple is very pretty and reminds me of the style of the Salt Lake temple with the side windows - just a much smaller temple though.
