Some of my family was in town for Pioneer Day - gearing up for our family reunion at Bear Lake. We had dinner together and then lit off some fireworks in the street! (And our new leather couch and recliner chair were delivered too!)

This year our local school system decided to put together a combined parade band for the state's annual Days of '47 Parade. We were kind of excited about it because this would be the one time that M&M and Luke would be able to march together for band. Since we moved out of M&M's high school boundaries, Luke (and the rest of the kids) will attend a different high school.
M&M has decided for marching band this year to switch to the baritone! She stayed after school towards the end of the school year to learn from one of the other baritone players. So this was her first time marching with the baritone!
The band students practiced all week long the week of the parade. Here are some pictures after the parade:
Saturday, July 26
We celebrated Pioneer Day a couple of days late since Luke was still away at camp on Pioneer Day. My parents came over and everyone made their own ice cream in a bag and then we lit off our own fireworks show.
Tuesday, July 24
We had a picnic dinner at our house for Pioneer Day, followed by a fireworks show. My brother and his family, as well as my younger sister and her family, and my parents were able to come over. I setup our pools and a new slip-n-slide that I had bought the previous year and the kids had fun playing with that while I got dinner ready. I didn't get any pictures of the slip-n-slide, but it has two lanes for sliding and it came with some inflatable little rafts to slide on as well. The older kids especially enjoyed it more than our older one.
The kids enjoyed the fireworks - well except for MJ and Kay once again... My sister-in-law came across the idea to have the kids put their hand inside of a plastic cup while holding a sparkler to help prevent burns.

Later that same day DH met up with us at my parents' house for dinner and then we drove over to the South Towne Expo Center to see the floats that were going to be in the Days of '47 Parade the following Monday for Pioneer Day. My brother-in-law was in charge of building a float for their stake this year and apparently the parade organizers have been holding a float preview party for the last couple of years where all of the floats are on display for the public to come and look at. We were truly amazed at how intricate the detail was on these floats! They were so amazing to look at and you could definitely appreciate them more close-up than you could seeing them in the parade. Here are a few of our favorites:

We had promised Blondie that we would have a family birthday party for her at home on Pioneer day after our trip. Initially we had been planning on coming home on Wednesday and then I would have had a day to prepare, but instead we got home on Thursday night. So on Friday (Pioneer Day) despite having to unpack and clean the house still, we had a party for Blondie and invited my family over for dinner and a party. We ended up barbecuing on my new grill for the first time, then Blondie opened her presents and then we had some cupcakes and ice cream. Afterwards my sister and her husband left to watch a fireworks show elsewhere and the rest of us went out to the front yard to do our own fireworks. The kids had a blast with the snaps and sparklers while DH lit off the bigger stuff. Unfortunately it was a VERY WINDY evening which isn't a great thing when you're trying to light fireworks...
This was a funny gift from Grandma S because whenever Blondie sees her she asks her for a mint - so Grandma gave her her own bag of them.
Baby K loved the cupcakes - she's come a long way since her birthday cake in April!
July 24-
We spent Pioneer Day by watching the Days of '47 parade on T.V in the morning and then I got the pool out for the kids to play in in the afternoon. My parents and M & Rog came over for a BBQ dinner. After dinner Rog showed us how to make paper boats and then we colored them and sailed them in our pool. We ended the day with our own fireworks show and root beer floats. My dad was a great help with Baby K and ended up holding her for most of the evening. She did just great with the fireworks and hardly cried at all the whole day!
