Jazz Band Festival

Wednesday, April 15, 2015

Luke's school started up a jazz band for the second semester. They meet 2 days a week before school. Luke has been playing tenor saxophone and has been enjoying himself. He is the only tenor sax and has had a few solos. They have a small group but they have a lot of fun and performed well before a judge at this festival.

It was a crazy day with driving kids around and we had a decent sized spring snow storm as well!

Christmas Snow!

Friday, December 26

We got some snow on Christmas Day so the kids went sledding the next day. We have a little bit of a hill on the side of the house so the girls went sledding there and then I took them to the neighborhood park a little later in the day for some more sledding. These pictures are all from our yard because I went sledding with them at the park and I didn't want to bring the camera with me.

Playing in the snow

Wednesday, December 3, 2013

Kay was really excited to play outside in the snow after school.  Unfortunately I was super busy trying to get things finished up with the costumes for the school play so I didn't have much time to get them suited up and take them out to play.  Kay was really cute though and took it upon herself to find all the snow gear for herself and MJ and helped MJ get hers on!  (I think MJ's boots were still in storage at this point so she went out in her tennis shoes.)

Finally some snow!

Thursday, January 30

We had a small snowstorm today and I made the girls go outside with me to play in the snow.  They had a blast!
Building a ramp to slide down.
Strangling the baby snowman!
That's a little better!
Giving the big snowman a hug!
Snowball fight!

Where is all the snow?

(*Sorry, I will be posting things out of order until I get caught up on my blogging!)

After a month or two of almost spring-like weather and no snow we woke up this morning to a little bit of snowfall.  (It wasn't even worth taking a picture of.)  Unfortunately Kay is sick or she probably would have gone outside to enjoy it...

It has been an unseasonably warm winter with very little snowfall.  It has actually been a little depressing for our family...

Sledding!!

Saturday, February 2

I took M&M with me to run a few errands after lunch today and on the way home we saw a couple of people sledding at our neighborhood park.  It was super beautiful weather and so I decided to ask the kids if they wanted to try out the sledding.  I mentioned it to DH and he questioned if it would be good sledding conditions with the temperatures so warm so I decided to take the kids on a walk to the park and we would try it out.  We took one sled with us (the other two were up in the rafters in the garage).  So we put some jackets on and some of the kids wore their boots and we took gloves with us.  Well it was perfect sledding conditions so after going down a few times and having to take turns and wait for the sled I sent Luke and Blondie home to ask DH if he could get the other sleds down for them.  After a little while they came back with the other sleds and said that their dad was coming too.  He came a minute or two later with his camera and took some video and pictures of the kids.  He got some awesome & hilarious pictures!  There were a couple of jumps that people had made towards the bottom of the hill and several of the pictures are taken as the kids are going off the jumps (although most of the time it was unintentional).  It was a lot more fun with the three sleds and the kids didn't have to wait very long at all to take another ride down the hill.  They were fine doubling up on the sleds and also took turns going one at a time.

We had one little mishap when two sleds were going down at once and DH was taking some video of one sled and walked straight into the path of the second sled.  He jumped out of the way just in time and somehow managed to stay on his feet, but when he jumped his knee collided with M&M's face and she had a slightly swollen lip for a day or two.  I think she also bruised her tailbone a little by going off too many jumps.  Luke kept heading for the trees at the bottom of the hill and bumped into one twice (although not very hard).

MJ went down with hill with me and M&M a couple of times and seemed to be having fun.  I even managed to take both MJ and Kay down at the same time once.  MJ got tired and cold towards the end and then Kay needed to use the bathroom so I walked back home with the two little ones while the older kids stayed a bit longer.

We had a lot of fun, which you can probably tell from the pictures!  Whenever I would get to the bottom of the hill with MJ she would hop off the sled and say, "That was fun, huh?"

These first few pictures are with just the one sled before DH came:

More snow pictures

November 10

I have finally gotten around to editing the pictures from DH's camera that I took of the kids playing in the snow.  There weren't any great ones, but here are a few:

Snow!!!

Friday, November 9

We got our first significant snowfall of the season.  It was a really wet, heavy snow so it was perfect for snowballs and for making snowmen!  (I've been waiting to post this until I got some more pictures off of DH's camera but he is taking too long.  I will possibly post more snow pictures later.)

The snow didn't stick around too long though and we were back to warm weather the following week.
