Mother's Day Program

Kay's class put on a little program for mothers right around Mother's Day. They each had a speaking part and they sang several songs. They also had little gifts for each of us that they had made. The kids also surprised us with dressing up for the program. The teacher had them just wear their regular clothes and then bring a change of clothes to school to change into right before the program. They were supposed to bring some nice clothes and shoes without telling anyone at home. It was funny to see what some of the kids picked out to wear! There were definitely some surprised moms!

Mother's Day flower

For Mother's Day this year, Kitty painted a flower pot in her school class and then they planted some seeds in the pot.  They were apparently just a bunch of random flower seeds so we were curious what would grow from it.  I kept it in the house until it started getting big enough and then I transplanted them outside.  Kitty helped me water them while they were outside and would check on them almost every day.  Two of the seeds ended up being marigold flowers and another one grew into a super tall stalk with a beautiful pink flower on the end of it.  Here are some pictures I took of it in August:

DH was asked to give a talk in church on Mother's Day.  This is the second time since we've been in this ward that he has been asked to talk on Mother's Day.  DH gave a really good talk and spoke some about my/our experience with my cancer.

I was also given a new calling today - the new Beehive advisor - working with the 12 & 13 year old girls.  I served in this calling once before in this ward and was released about 5 1/2 years ago from it - and I have been in primary ever since then.  Things have changed a little since I was last in the calling - the curriculum has changed which will be a bit of an adjustment.  We have about 13 active girls right now in that class so it will definitely keep me busy.  Plus I can go to YW camp with M&M at the end of July if I can work it out!  I had about 2 weeks off from a calling and was only able to go to Relief Society one of those weeks.  The second week I filled in on the piano for the primary - and played for them during Sacrament Meeting today.

Mother's Day 2011

After church I had the girls go outside and pick some tulips from our front yard. I also had them pick a few to put in a small vase for my mother. My parents came over for dinner later in the day.

Luke won this box of Mike & Ikes the Friday before Mother's Day at a class auction where they use points that they have earned in class. He told me that he was going to eat the candy at first but then realized that it was Mother's Day coming up and so he decided to give the candy to me instead.

Happy Mother's Day!

Baby K gave me the best Mother's Day present yesterday: she slept through the night Saturday night and even slept in the next morning. And she woke up in a happy mood too! She was very cute and in a good mood all day and took a good nap as soon as we got home from church. Also in the morning she took her first 2 steps for her dad! We're going to have another walker here pretty soon!

Blondie gave me a plate that she made in school, Luke gave me a framed letter that he did at school, M&M gave me a picture frame that she painted with a mother's day poem in it from activity days, a flower pen that she made in her primary class and a coupon book that she made at school and Kitty decorated a card for me in primary.

After church we went over to my parents' house for dinner and made some homemade strawberry ice cream there with my new ice cream maker.

And for posterity's sake, here are the plates that M&M and Luke made when they were in kindergarten (this is a special project that the kindergarten classes do each year at our school).Apparently all of my girls like rainbows!

Mother's Day

This was the year for jewelry for me for Mother's Day. Kitty made me a necklace in nursery and the older three kids each made me a bracelet at a primary activity. Left to right we have Blondie, Luke & M&M (it's funny how much they reflect their personalities). At school M&M made an art picture for me and Luke made an impression of his handprint. DH gave me some flowers to plant in my pots on the front porch & walkway.

After church the kids made my mom some flowers out of tissue paper & pipe cleaners. We gave them to her that evening when we went over to her house for dinner.
